My name is Becky.

I’m currently an English teacher in Madrid through the Ministry of Education’s auxiliares program. I am a native Hoosier, avid Colts fan, lover of sunsets, probably not in that order. Currently I aspire to make everything on my Pinterest food board. Eventually.

I love travel. Check out my bucket list and let me know your suggestions! I love going back to cities and discovering new things about them each time, so also check out my “completed” list. I’ve lived in three countries (USA, Mexico, and Spain) and until last year, had travelled to more countries than states.

For that reason and various personal reasons on the side (Ahem, a boy), I find myself back in Spain after having studied abroad a few years ago. It’s about a 80/20 love-hate relationship split with this country, as you’ll see clearly in various posts. However, I’m slowly but surely adapting and making my home here.

I have my MA in sports journalism, and a BA in both journalism and Spanish, all from IUPUI (Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis and yes, I do get tired of explaining the name).

I’ve interned/worked with the Indiana Fever, Saturday Evening Post, Indianapolis Star, and the crowning jewel, the U.S. Olympic Committee as part of their digital communications team at the 2016 Rio Olympics (I still can’t believe it). Shameless plug: If you feel like it, you can check out my resume/portfolio site here.

However, the best job I’ve ever had was my college job as a “campus ambassador” (Tour guide extraordinaire). I worked in that office for 5 years, including my time as a GA, and honestly miss it every single day of my life. There will one day be a book filled with the Tales That Aren’t Tall, But Sound Like They Are from my time there.

And the title of the blog? What gives?

Oh yeah, the title. It comes from an incident way back in my freshman year of college wherein a group of guys in my dorm saw me carrying a stack of books and my laptop to the window (where there was a study nook) and came running out ostensibly to keep me from jumping. College is fun y’all I promise.
